Sabato — a book of children's poems

Sabato
a book of children's poems

I'm very happy to share a collection of recent illustrations, personal and academic, where I explored fantasy characters (fairies and fey) with cottagecore style and pastel colors. The purpose of the exercise was to create a book of children's poems, where creativity was free and unlimited.
Creative process

The starting point was the poem "Sabato":

No meio do mato
vive o Sabato
que se alimenta de poetas, chá e pudim.
Felizmente eu sei coisas sobre ele,
que sabe muito pouco de mim.
Original in Portuguese-BR.

In the middle of the woods
lives Sabato
who feeds on poets, tea and pudding.
Fortunately I know things about him,
who knows very little about me.
Free english translation.
Illustrations

The references used for the character design and setting were the incredible artists: Brian Froud, Alan Lee, Loputyn and Gretlusky. The most in-depth studies were based on the book Faeries (1978 - Rufus Publications, Inc.), also developed by Brian Froud and Alan Lee.

Even though the atmosphere created is more childish when working with pastel colors, I developed the main character Sabato with feminine and more mature features, so that it will be equally interesting for those who will be reading with the children.
